THE TRIP WITH DAD

A moving problem became a rail memory.

A sleeper to Denver with Dad. A rental truck for the return.

We took Amtrak west to retrieve my belongings from Colorado and bring them back to Illinois. It turned a moving chore into a bucket-list trip together.

Getting there really was part of the story.

THE UNPLANNED STOP

Chicago would have to wait.

One Chicago-bound trip never made it to Chicago because the train encountered a telephone pole.

The sleeper trip was on the bucket list. This one was not.
